Lawrence William ‘Spider’ Gallot and Evelyn
Lawrence was the eldest son of William George II and
Mary Gallot, born around 1889. He went on to become a registered carrier
until he signed up with the 1st Auckland regiment of the NZEF.
Lawrence met and later married Evelyn. Lawrence was
wounded in Gallipoli on 28 October 1915 and taken to a hospital in Cardiff
before returning home to Auckland until his death in 15 December 1935 aged
46. This picture appeared in the Auckland Weekly
News on July 6 1916.
Eva struggled to cope with life after her husband’s death and was moved from
their home in Vernon St to an Auckland Mental Institution, until her death
only 18 months later.
On May 27th 1937 the following notice appeared in the Auckland Herald
newspaper;
“On May 24 at Auckland, Eva, beloved wife of the late Lawrence; age 67.
Private interment at Waikumete Cemetary 11 a.m. today”
